Al's Place Plaza
Renovations to the concessions stand area at Moss Park began just before Christmas 2006. After the $50,000.00 renovation, it will be named Al's Place Plaza, in memory of LHSA's longtime director of concessions, Al Stevens. Renovations are expected to be completed before the start of the Spring 2007 season.

LHSA President featured in The Pitch
Dick White, LHSA's President for 12 years and counting, was a "soccer guy" in Dallas before most Texans had heard of the game. Dick, and a small group of people like him, helped get soccer rolling in Dallas, ultimately leading to the strong interest soccer has today. North Texas Soccer features him in The Pitch, their newsletter.

Lost in Dallas, Found in Kenya
The “lost and found” soccer balls from Moss were given to children at the
Nyumbani home for HIV+ orphans in Nairobi, Kenya, by Diana Brown, daughter of LHSA commissioner Gary Brown. She was in Kenya on a University of South Carolina School of Business trip studying “Business Practices in Africa”. They were gleefully received, and an impromptu soccer game immediately ensued in the schoolyard. The soccer balls will continue to give joy to these orphans long after the USC students’ visit is a dim memory.

NTSSA Volunteer of the Year - 2006
For the third time in four years, LHSA has been awarded the coveted Volunteer of the Year award from the North Texas State Soccer Association. This year, our own John Gossett has shown the spirit and dedication to receive this award:

1) John has served as Vice President for over 6 years. John stays on top of LHSA office administration matters, coordinates improvements to Moss park, the resolution of field maintenance problems, and he coordinates the field scheduling for the four other associations that use Moss Park;
2) John has worked with the Dallas Park and Recreation Dept, TXU, and contractors to relieve some of the parking woes at Moss by adding 75 parking spaces on the South side of the complex;
3) John virtually single handedly conceived and was the driving force behind the LHSA Turkey Cup Tournament during its firs two years;
4) John continues to be an active referee and mentor for our young referees. He is always there to help the younger referees recognize the different situations that can present problems during a game and improve their skills and understanding of the game; and
5) In addition to all of his other duties, John continues to be the coach/manager for the Shamrocks U-16 Girls team and a Coed Soccer team in the LHSA Coed League.

NTSSA Volunteer of the Year - 2004
For the second year in a row, an LHSA volunteer has received the coveted North Texas State Soccer Association Volunteer of the Year. Tony and Karen Fenimore were awarded the 2004 award for their work in taking over the Moss Park Consession Stand operations and upgrading the equipment and service. The Fenimores took over in midsummer after the unexpected death of LHSA's long-time Director of Concessions, Mr. Al Stevens.

NTSSA Volunteer of the Year - 2003
Our current President, Dick White, won resounding acclimation as the North Texas State Soccer Association 2003 Volunteer of the Year for volunteer work across the spectrum of NTSSA soccer activities. In addition to his work as President of LHSA, Dick also provided services in the following areas:
1) he assumed coaching duties for the Texas Comets 88 - Blue team after the professional coach was discharged, with the team having a significantly better performance after Dick took over;
2) he assumed the Manager duties for Storm - 88B team for the following soccer year;
3) he conceived and organized RIAD (the Recreational Interleague Association of Dallas) among LHSA, Chamber Soccer, Richardson Soccer, and Dallas North Soccer, to provide a better, broader, more enjoyable soccer experience for recreational soccer players, and wrote all of the Rules and Protocols for the interleague play;
4) he conceived the development of Al's Place Plaza, an improvement to the Moss Concession Stand with terracing and seating, and began the planning, design, and financing for it; and
5) he assumed the position of President of Storm Soccer Club, one of the original competitive soccer teams in Dallas.
